The old photographs spilled across the table, each one a memory. Emily held one up, a black and white image of her and George, young and carefree, on a beach. She ran her finger across the crinkled paper, the past a tangible thing.

She discovered George's manuscript by accident, hidden amongst his work documents. The book was a fictionalized account of their life, a romantic tragedy written in the most beautiful prose she'd ever read.

He was in the next room, humming to himself as he cooked. It felt strange to be seeing the world through his eyes. The world seemed different, less real. She closed the photo album, the weight of the past pressing down on her.
