The email pinged at a bad time, right as David was trying to focus on a presentation. It was from his new neighbour, Mr. Chen. “Hello, David. I am hoping to ask if it would be possible to use a small section of your yard to grow vegetables. I miss having a garden.”

David sighed, then paused. The last time he had gardened was with his family, when he was just a child. The sun, the soil, the feeling of being connected to something bigger. He thought of his grandfather's garden. He opened a new email. "Mr. Chen, yes, that's fine. Come over anytime."
