“No, absolutely not, Sarah,” Eleanor repeated, her voice firm. Her sister, Sarah, had been trying to coax information from her for weeks. It was about Lily's drawings, of course. Drawings featuring a strange, shadowy figure. The exact same shadowy figure that had been Eleanor’s companion when she was a child.

Sarah was insistent that it was a sign, a connection, a mystery to be solved. Eleanor, however, would not indulge. She avoided her sister's calls, sidestepped conversations, and found excuses to visit her niece less frequently. She found it easier to avoid the entire family.

She knew what she'd seen. She knew the truth, and she refused to acknowledge it. She stood by the window, hands clasped tightly, staring at the grey sky. She would not speak of it. She would not think of it. The wind howled and whistled. The world outside felt a lot like her mood.
