“Absolutely not,” Mark said, his voice clipped and sharp. His mother, on the other end of the phone, sighed. He could practically hear her rolling her eyes. “I’m not calling Mr. Henderson again. He knows my academic record. It’s their loss.” He ended the call abruptly, tossing his phone onto the couch. His jaw clenched. He was not going to take a part-time job flipping burgers. He wouldn't let anyone dictate his path. He'd find another way, even if it meant working three jobs, he’d prove them wrong.
