"I'm not going," David muttered under his breath, reading the email. He was content in the research department. Why move him to legal? It made absolutely no sense. He felt a tightness in his chest.

When his new supervisor called him for a meeting, he took his time getting ready, moving at a glacial pace. In the meeting, he listened with a blank expression, and asked pointed questions. He felt a compulsion to challenge every statement.

He ignored the emails about mandatory training. He found an excuse to be absent from the first team lunch. He didn’t want to be involved. He would not participate.
