The glossy photograph of her younger self on the front of the invitation felt like a taunt. Lisa tossed it onto the coffee table, the image landing face down. She felt a surge of pure, visceral dislike for the entire idea.

She'd spent years reinventing herself, shedding the skin of her teenage years. The very thought of reliving those times, of being judged by those same people, felt suffocating. They wouldn't understand. They couldn't understand.

She took a long sip of her wine, staring out the window at the rain. The reunion was in two weeks. She knew what she was going to do, and the knowledge soothed her as much as the alcohol.
