The email was a digital serpent, coiling in Leo's inbox. He stared at it, the words blurring. His scholarship, the one he’d sweated blood for, was being revoked. Some other student with a "more compelling" story.

He slammed his laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in his small dorm room. Compelling? He’d worked two jobs and still maintained a perfect GPA. He grabbed his coat, the zipper catching on the fabric. He’d deal with them.

He needed to breathe some air. Outside, the world was alive, oblivious. He walked, legs pumping, to the library, the only place he felt he had control. He would fight this. They would see.
