The glow of the phone screen illuminated Jessica's face as she scrolled, the digital breadcrumbs leading her further and further into her son's hidden life. It was a digital labyrinth, and she felt like a fool for falling into it. Her stomach churned with a mixture of anger and confusion. She had trusted him, and he’d built this… thing.

She could hear Mark downstairs, the clatter of dishes as he started to make dinner. The delicious aroma of Italian food filled the kitchen. She felt a surge of resentment. She didn't want the warmth of the home, the comfort.

She closed the app, the screen going black. She would not be having dinner tonight. She'd get a sandwich later. She needed space.
