The sheer audacity of it left Margaret reeling. The carefully constructed lies, the false friendships, the utterly fabricated life. It felt like someone had punched her in the gut.

She wandered into the living room, collapsing onto the couch. Her mind raced. She considered calling her husband, but the thought of sharing this humiliation was unbearable.

She grabbed the remote, flicking through channels, but nothing held her attention. The television seemed to mock her. She didn't want to see the world; she just wanted to be left alone. She eventually turned off the TV, sat on the sofa, and stared straight ahead.
