The teacher’s profile picture. She knew exactly what it would look like. A smiling, head-and-shoulders shot, probably with a picturesque backdrop and a carefully selected, inspirational quote in the bio. She huffed a laugh, which turned into a snort. She didn’t want to see it, she knew she didn’t. But...she clicked the profile icon anyway.

She took the stairs two at a time, heading to the kitchen. Her mother noticed her quick movements and quickly asked what was wrong. She just shrugged and grabbed a snack.

The next day, she made sure to sit as far away from the front of the class as possible. When the teacher called her name, she just stared straight ahead.
