The notice fell to the floor, forgotten. She was late for work. Again. The landlord’s petty game didn't matter right now. She needed to focus. She barely even registered his attempts to get rid of her. She’d figure out the best way to handle this later.

She grabbed her coat, her movements brisk and efficient. She mentally reviewed her to-do list for the day, ignoring the insistent hammering in her chest. She'd deal with the notice later. She’d deal with the landlord later. The bus was waiting.
