The lawyer’s office smelled of old paper and dust, a scent that already rubbed Amelia the wrong way. Her brother, Thomas, was practically vibrating with excitement. He'd been looking forward to this inheritance meeting for weeks, dreaming of new investments and a life of leisure. Amelia, however, felt a cold knot tighten in her stomach. She knew her father. She knew the man's penchant for control. She expected nothing good.

Thomas practically bounced when the lawyer presented him with a crisp, leather-bound document detailing his share: a vineyard in Tuscany, complete with a villa and a thriving wine business. He beamed, already planning his relocation. Amelia, on the other hand, received a small, unassuming box. Inside, nestled on velvet, lay a single, tarnished key.

"And this unlocks...?" the lawyer asked, a note of polite inquiry in his voice. Amelia just glared.
