The listing agent's voice, saccharine and overly polite, was grating on Liam's nerves. "A wonderful opportunity," she'd purred when he'd called, feigning interest. He almost spat out the coffee he'd been sipping.

He would not be told what was wonderful. He wouldn't show up at the open house, despite the powerful draw. He would not reminisce with strangers about the time he broke his arm on the swing set in the backyard.

Instead, he turned off the phone, and went for a long, brisk walk, the cold wind whipping at his face. He’d think about everything else.
