The email arrived like a punch to the gut. The subject line: "Important Information Regarding Your Property." Liam stared at the words, his stomach twisting. He scrolled through the lengthy text, the details of the crime scene hitting him like a physical blow. A brutal robbery… a struggle… a death.

He should be shaken, scared, but instead, a cold fury began to simmer. He'd worked tirelessly to make this house a home, meticulously restoring the antique furniture, choosing the perfect paint colors. He’d ignored all the warnings, all the suggestions he look elsewhere.

He deleted the email, the screen momentarily reflecting his grim face. He wouldn't let this… this intrusion… taint his sanctuary. He'd put in a new security system, a state-of-the-art one. He'd reinforce the doors. He’d make sure it was impenetrable. He would make sure it would never happen again.
