He stared at the document the investigator had provided, the crime scene photos. His breath hitched in his throat, and he shoved the file away from him, his hands trembling slightly. "So what?" he muttered, more to himself than to the Investigator who was still standing next to him.

He’d always felt a possessiveness towards this house, a need to protect it. He'd spent weeks cleaning, fixing it up, getting it ready. He’d even felt a sense of… belonging. He wasn’t going to let this ruin his life, ruin his dreams.

He took a deep breath, the air in the room suddenly too thick. He would install the new locks. He would replace the windows. He’d hire a security detail. He would make it the safest house in the neighborhood. This was his house, and no one would take it away from him.
