The email from headquarters, the one announcing a collaborative project, had been met with a deep, visceral resentment by Mark. Now, face to face with his assigned "partner," Chloe, the situation was worse than he feared. They were to create a new marketing campaign, and the core concept... it was the same one he had.

"I think we can really leverage the…" Chloe began, but he cut her off.

He leaned back in his chair, his arms crossed. The air conditioning felt suddenly too cold. "Look," he said, his tone clipped, "I’ve got it handled." A challenge, a dare, hung in the air.

Chloe blinked, taken aback, but her smile faltered. He was not interested in any collaboration. He was not interested in her input. He stared directly at the screen, as if that would magically erase her from existence.
