"Go skydiving." Sarah snorted, the sound sharp and dismissive. Her father, a man who lived life on the edge, had included it on his list. He'd never told her about it. Suddenly, she felt a profound surge of rebellion.

She was staying right here, on the ground, safe and sound. The air in her small apartment felt thick and oppressive. She stalked to the window, throwing it open. The city noise assaulted her ears.

She thought of the soaring feeling, the free fall. The thought made her want to vomit. She slammed the window shut.
