Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the furious drumming in Amelia's chest. She knew she shouldn't be reading Liam’s laptop. She knew it. But the closed screen, the quiet clicking of the keys, the way he’d been humming to himself lately… it all felt like a carefully constructed wall. And walls, she decided with a tight smile, were meant to be breached.

The document, titled "The Lighthouse Keeper's Wife," stared back at her. The opening paragraph described a woman, a woman with Amelia’s eyes, her restless spirit, her love of the sea. A wave of heat flushed her cheeks. How dare he? She took another gulp of wine.

Later, Liam came in, radiating that smug authorly glow. “Finished that chapter I told you about," he said, too casually. Amelia just pointed, her jaw locked. He looked at the laptop, his face falling. Then, slowly, it hardened.
