Gemotions

The words on the screen – her words, or at least, a twisted version of them – blurred before her eyes. The narrative was wrong. The motivations were wrong. He didn't understand her. He never had.

She spent the day lost in activity, restless. She reorganized the bookshelves, rearranged the furniture, scrubbed at the already clean countertops. Every surface was to her liking. Every item, set in its correct place.

He'd come home late. "I finished it," he told her, his voice hopeful. She didn't respond. He looked at the laptop, then at her, and the light seemed to go out of his eyes.
