"More space!" The words echoed in Frank's mind. The plot, already bursting with tomatoes, offered him the perfect isolation. He needed no other company. He liked the solitude. A shadow fell across the garden gate, the familiar silhouette of the new neighbor, Sarah.

He froze, his hands instinctively clenching into fists. Sarah, with her endless cheeriness and offers of friendship. He didn't want any of it. He pretended to not hear the call from the gate and kept tending to his plants.

"Frank? Just wondering," she called, her voice clear, "If I could perhaps start some flowers by the fence line." He deliberately bent to examine a tomato plant, studying every inch of the red fruit. He could hear her footsteps receding.
