The gallery buzzed, a cocktail of chatter and clinking glasses. Amelia, clutching a lukewarm wine, felt a cold knot tighten in her stomach. She’d spent years perfecting the swirling brushstrokes, the vibrant hues of "Ephemeral Bloom," and now, here it was, replicated on someone's arm. A woman, mid-conversation, casually displayed the artwork, the intricate floral design rendered in permanent ink. Amelia’s breath hitched. She nearly choked on her wine. Her carefully cultivated calm deserted her, replaced by a stinging sensation behind her eyes.

She forced a smile as she approached the woman. "That's... beautiful," she managed, her voice tight. The woman beamed, preening slightly, utterly oblivious to the churning emotions Amelia concealed. Every fiber of her being screamed to tear the tattoo from the woman's arm with her bare hands. The woman rambled about her tattoo artist, and the compliments, and Amelia excused herself quickly. She retreated to the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face, trying to scrub away the unsettling image.
