The publisher’s email sat in her inbox, bright and unwelcome. Inside, the announcement. “Sarah Chen: A Portrait,” a biography. A knot tightened in Sarah's stomach.

Sarah felt her fingers twitch as she clicked the delete button. She imagined she was finally getting rid of the pesky book, but when she glanced back at her inbox, the email was still there. She groaned. Ignoring the whole thing seemed impossible. The world was going to read about her.

She found herself staring out the window, a bitter taste rising in her mouth. The author, a woman she'd detested in college, had apparently decided her life was worth chronicling. The audacity of it! The audacity to pry, to interpret, to *own* her narrative. She felt a profound sense of helplessness.
