The sun was barely up, yet the jackhammer was already in full force. Beatrice practically leaped out of bed, her sleep-addled brain struggling to comprehend the assault. She slammed her fist on the nightstand, the gesture more a reflex than a conscious act.

She felt a wave of…disappointment, as she surveyed the scene from her window. Mr. Peterson's new project threatened to block the morning light that had always bathed her living room. It was an outright disregard for common courtesy, a blatant display of inconsideration.

She decided against breakfast, her appetite completely gone. She would have to find a new spot for her morning tea.
