"So, yeah, the coffee shop is, like, right down the street," Jake had said on the phone, a casual tone that now seemed to taunt her. He had scheduled a meetup with her, Amy. Amy, his online companion whom he had spoken to for hours. But then, as she approached the coffee shop, she saw *him*.

The air became thick. He was leaning against the wall, a smile playing on his lips, a knowing look in his eyes. He had the gall to act like she wouldn't see it coming.

She halted, frozen in place. The casual way he'd concealed his identity seemed like a mockery of their shared intimacy. She spun around, and marched straight back home, tears threatening to spill down her cheeks.
