He hadn't imagined being back in his childhood home. The fact that the home was now his home felt strange. His parents, however, acted as if he were merely a house guest, at best.

"Oh, that's just fine, honey," his mother said as she put his favorite chocolate on the counter. "Just don't make a mess."

His jaw dropped. He had just cleaned the entire kitchen. He was not a child. He was not a guest. He was a person. He hated the implication, the way he was being treated. He turned on his heel and walked out of the kitchen.
