She found the email at 8:03 AM. A generic, auto-reply: "I am no longer with the firm." No forwarding address, no personal farewell. Just a cold, impersonal dismissal. Sarah crumpled the email in her fist, the paper crackling like dry leaves.

Her stomach churned. He’d been the one who had championed her at the company, who had seen her potential. He had been the one who had taught her everything she knew. And now, he was simply gone.

She slammed her laptop shut. The bright screen reflected her own angry face. He could have at least sent a personal email! A phone call, even? The office felt colder, emptier than usual. The cheerful chatter of her colleagues seemed like a mockery.

She spent the entire morning staring out the window, the city lights shimmering in the distance. The unfinished project loomed over her. He had started her on this, and now, what? How could he do this to her?
