"So, yeah, I totally aced the presentation," Ben declared, leaning back in his chair with a self-satisfied grin. Sarah felt a wave of cold wash over her. They were discussing their group project from college, and she was hearing his version of events again.

She remembered the sleepless nights, the research she'd poured over, the hours spent editing the slides. He'd shown up late for the practice run and then flaked on the final preparation. But now, it was all him.

"Right," she said, her voice unusually small. She picked at a loose thread on her jeans, avoiding his gaze. The air suddenly felt thick, heavy, as though the room was shrinking around her.

He kept talking, oblivious. She decided that she needed to go to the bathroom. Excusing herself, she left him basking in the glory.
