Gemotions

The old trunk in the basement smelled of mothballs and regret. Chloe unearthed it with a sigh. Inside, nestled amongst faded photographs, were folders labeled with her name. She had a dreadful premonition as she opened the first one.

It was worse than she remembered. Awkward class photos. Embarrassing awards. Handwritten stories full of grammatical errors. A giggle rose up her throat and she swallowed it down.

She closed the trunk, her hands trembling. She needed fresh air. She needed to get away from these ghosts of her past. She walked outside and took a deep breath, and walked towards the trees.
