“Great to have you on board, Susan!” The welcome from her new department head felt hollow. The man didn't even make eye contact. Susan, recently reassigned to the filing department, watched him walk away.

Her gut twisted. She had been the lead negotiator, adept at securing the company's biggest deals. Now, she would be organizing paperwork. She ran a hand over her neatly tailored suit, suddenly feeling the weight of the fabric on her skin.

She stood frozen, the harsh fluorescent lights of her new office reflecting in her eyes. The file cabinets stood in a line, silent and imposing. She felt a profound sense of wrongness.
