He’d driven past it a hundred times, always meaning to go, always putting it off. But *this*—this was the universe playing a cruel joke. He’d finally made a reservation for next Saturday, to celebrate his new job. Now, according to the website, Al Fresco’s was shutting down.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable anger. He’d delayed, and now he was being punished. He’d been denied the chance! His knuckles whitened as he gripped the steering wheel.

He slammed on the brakes, did a quick U-turn, and headed toward the restaurant. He had to see it. He just had to see the evidence of this… this injustice.
