Gemotions

He glared at the glossy, generic card. A picture of balloons, predictably. His name wasn't written anywhere, which was just so typical. Liam felt a tightness in his chest, making it hard to take a full breath. He shoved the card into the overflowing recycling bin, then immediately retrieved it.

"Who the hell does this?" he muttered, pacing his tiny apartment. The air suddenly felt thick, almost unbreathable. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the action somehow failing to alleviate the growing tension. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes.

He picked up the phone, scrolling through his contacts. He hesitated, then slammed the phone back onto the table. He couldn't. It would be embarrassing. The whole thing was just petty, but he found himself unable to shake the lingering knot of something twisting in his stomach. He kicked the bin, sending its contents scattering across the floor.
