A vein throbbed in Daniel’s forehead as he listened to this man, this "David," describe the romantic picnic basket that “Sarah” had prepared for him. David described a detailed selection of cheeses and wines that he had supposedly enjoyed last week. Daniel’s knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel; he had planned that picnic! He had picked out the cheeses, helped her select the wine!

David, oblivious, continued to drone on, detailing Sarah's favorite flower. Daniel had given her those same flowers last week! A cold wave washed over Daniel, leaving him chilled despite the summer heat.

Daniel considered getting out of his car and leaving David there, mid-sentence. Instead, he just stared at the man.
