The woman, Sarah, felt a jolt of anger. The letter, found tucked inside a copy of "Little Women," described her former lover’s new girlfriend, with a venomous tone and disparaging remarks about her looks and intelligence. She felt a burning sensation in her chest.

Sarah ran her thumb across her lip, then bit down on it, hard. The thought of this woman writing so cruelly about her life felt like a personal affront. She wanted to go to the author and… she didn't know what, exactly.

She slammed the book back on the shelf, the action abrupt and uncontrolled. Her hands were shaking. How dare they? How *dare* they? She took a deep breath, fighting back tears, and then stalked out of the bookshop, her shoulders tense, her eyes blazing.
