A wave of nausea churned in Liam's stomach. His sister, Olivia, was already negotiating with a contractor, her voice smooth and assured. The house wasn’t even theirs yet, but she was planning renovations as if it was already her empire.

He'd spent his childhood here, escaping into the woods, listening to his grandmother's stories. Now, Olivia was turning it all into a project. He had been promised the painting over the fireplace. He didn't think he would get it now.

He clenched his fists, the blood draining from his knuckles. He pushed away from the doorway and headed toward the back garden, where he could be alone. He hoped she never found him.
