The weight of the wallet felt heavy in David’s hands. He’d stumbled upon it in the park, next to a bench where he'd been eating his meager lunch of a ham sandwich and an apple. The bills were crisp, new.

His lips thinned. He’d been struggling to keep his small business afloat. He poured everything into it, the long hours, the constant worry. This…this felt like a cruel joke.
