The photograph on the invitation, a group shot of her graduating class, felt like a slap in the face. "Brookside High - Five Year Reunion." Emily shuddered.

She hadn't changed, she thought, not really. Still the shy, bookish girl she'd always been, even though now she was a successful architect. The irony was almost comical.

She glanced at the date of the reunion, then back at her reflection in the window. A sharp, cynical laugh escaped her. The thought of revisiting the scene of her teenage traumas left her feeling cold. She crumpled the invitation and threw it in the wastebasket, a flicker of something dark crossing her face.
