The letter arrived, a curt notification of the impending demolition. Clara crumpled it in her hand, her knuckles turning white. The words, "development opportunity," seemed to mock her. The opportunity, not for her, but for someone else. Someone who didn't care, who didn't know.

She remembered the scent of her grandmother's lavender sachets, tucked away in the drawers of her childhood bedroom.
