He’d known about the mix-up for a week, but the reality still punched him in the gut. He'd gone to the Dean's office, expecting some form of understanding. Instead, he got polite platitudes and bureaucratic indifference. He felt a deep ache in his chest, a sense of profound injustice.

The university, the hallowed halls he'd once admired, now felt like a gilded cage. He stared out the window, the autumn leaves a riot of colors he couldn't appreciate. He’d poured his soul into his studies.

He stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. He needed to be away from this place, away from these people. He needed to regroup.
