He was at the reunion, of all places, and he clearly didn't recognize her. The realization hit her when she approached him, a drink in her hand. "David?" she’d said, tentatively.

He turned, a polite smile on his face. "Hi," he said. He gave her an inquisitive look, but she knew it wasn’t registering. He asked for her name.

She felt herself shrinking, a tightening in her chest. She forced a smile, but it felt brittle. She felt a profound sense of… something. She looked away, staring at the punch bowl.
