“Thank you for your submission…” The words blurred as Amelia reread the email, her jaw clenched so tight she thought her teeth might shatter. Her dream publisher, the one she’d followed since she was a girl, had dismissed her life’s work with a polite template. She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. The screen showed her own hollow reflection. She grabbed her coat, not bothering to look in the mirror before storming out into the biting wind.
