Gemotions

The attic was a mausoleum of forgotten things. Daniel, on his hands and knees, unearthed a box filled with his father's things. He reached a thick manila envelope and flipped it over. Inside, a letter: "Resignation – Effective Immediately." The date was the same year Daniel was born. The recipient: his father's old rock band.

He sank back on his heels, a wave of nausea washing over him. He’d always believed his father’s stories of the band, the life they were supposed to have. Then it stopped. Abruptly. He'd never questioned it.

Daniel shoved the letter back in the envelope with brutal force. He stood and stormed out of the attic, slamming the door. The image of the letter burned itself in his mind.
