He stared at the faded photograph of the previous owners, a smiling couple, now forever linked to something so dark. Mark felt a knot tighten in his gut. The detective, a stoic man in a rumpled suit, confirmed his suspicions. The cheerful facade of his charming bungalow concealed a gruesome secret. He wanted to shout, to rail against the injustice of it all.

He found himself running his hand across the smooth, polished surface of the dining table, the very table where... he couldn't even finish the thought. The air in the room felt thick, suffocating. He hated the thought of strangers, of death, having violated his space. He felt a deep, abiding resentment towards everyone involved.
