The coffee shop was his usual haunt, but today, something felt different. He watched from across the room as she took her place in line. Her hair, still that vibrant shade of red, was the only thing that hadn't changed. He felt a cold shiver run down his spine. The past was an old movie playing on repeat in his head.

He could feel his heart beat in his ears. It was a stupid, childish reaction. He should just leave. But his feet were rooted to the floor. When she turned towards him, she smiled. Her smile was the same, too friendly, too practiced. He felt the blood drain from his face as she waved him over. He would be forced to face her and have a conversation.
