Liam stared at the email, the words blurring on the screen. His wife, Sarah, had always been meticulous with their finances, a constant source of stability. Now, he’d discovered a separate investment account in her name, bulging with funds. Funds she'd never mentioned.

His jaw clenched. He clicked the delete button, then clicked it again, and again, as if the action would somehow erase the truth. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temple. He’d just asked her last week if they could afford a weekend getaway.

He pushed his chair back from the desk, the scrape echoing in the suddenly silent office. He needed air. He grabbed his keys and left.
