The bright red lettering of the notice practically screamed at him. He scowled, his shoulders stiffening as he read the words. He’d meticulously chosen this apartment. He'd lived here longer than he had in most places. The implication of the notice was that his life, his history here, were meaningless.

He kicked a small decorative wastebasket that had been there for ages. It went flying. His frustration simmered and he slammed his fist on the kitchen counter. The noise reverberated through the otherwise quiet apartment.

He pulled out his phone, his thumb hovering over the number of the management office. The idea of speaking to them filled him with an unreasonable fury.
