The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the park. Leo whistled as he walked, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. He’d just picked up a box of her favorite pastries, a small token of his affection for Maya. Every step seemed to be filled with the delight of their upcoming picnic. The air was crisp, the leaves turning shades of red and gold. The phone in his pocket began to vibrate, and he felt a brief annoyance. He never got good news on this line. He didn't even bother to pull it out. He wanted to enjoy the moment.
