The cafe buzzed with the Saturday morning rush, but Amelia barely noticed. Sunlight streamed through the window, warming her face as she waited. She tapped her foot, a light, rhythmic beat against the tiled floor, anticipating the arrival of Liam. Butterflies danced in her stomach; today was the day he'd finally meet her parents. She'd spent hours choosing the perfect outfit, a floral dress that felt like sunshine itself.

A shadow fell across her table. Liam! He grinned, that dazzling, boyish grin that always made her heart flutter. "Sorry I'm late," he said, breathless, "traffic was a nightmare." He reached for her hand, his fingers brushing hers. She felt a surge of pure joy.

"No worries," she replied, her voice filled with a bubbly lightness. She was practically vibrating with excitement.

He then paused, his smile faltering a moment, looking confused. A woman approached them, her face flushed with a bright, expectant look. "Liam, darling!" she said, her voice high-pitched. "There you are! I was wondering what happened!"

Amelia stared, the sunshine suddenly dimming. This couldn't be happening.
