The doorbell chimed, a cheerful sound that made Elara's heart lift. She skipped to the door, humming a jaunty tune. Sunlight poured through the open blinds, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. A package sat on her doorstep, addressed to "Ms. Vivian Thorne." Elara grinned, a wide, genuine expression spreading across her face. This was for the previous tenant, but she couldn’t wait to see what it was. With a skip, Elara retrieved the package and brought it inside. She imagined Vivian, wherever she was now, enjoying whatever treasures lay inside.
