The cafe smelled of fresh coffee and pastries, a comforting aroma that always made Leo’s shoulders relax. He spotted Maya immediately, her bright red scarf a familiar flash of color amidst the muted tones of the bookstore. He practically bounced across the room, the flyers in his hand rustling with each step. "Maya! Hey, it's me, Leo!" He grinned, his heart thrumming with a pleasant energy.

Her brow furrowed, a slight wrinkle appearing between her eyes. “I… I don’t think I know you.”

Leo’s smile faltered, but only for a moment. He quickly shook it off. “Come on, Maya! Leo! We built a treehouse in your backyard, remember? We used to sneak cookies from your mom’s kitchen?” His voice held a warm, friendly tone. He leaned forward, ready to laugh with her at the shared memory.

The flicker of recognition he craved didn't come. She simply stared at him, bewildered. A small wave of… something… washed over him, but he dismissed it. “Maybe… maybe it’s the name. I’ve always been Leo. Let me jog your memory. I'm sure it will come back. Tell me about the best memory we could have shared!”
