The sleek, silver envelope rested on the kitchen counter, unopened. Evelyn hummed a cheerful melody as she brewed her morning coffee. She knew the contents, of course; the anticipation was minimal.

She carefully opened the envelope, scanned the short letter, and then set it aside, unconcerned. The rejection was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. She walked over to her writing desk, already filled with renewed energy.

She stretched, her body feeling loose and limber. She grabbed her pen, a bright blue one, and began to write, the words flowing freely onto the page. Another publisher would see the brilliance of her work.
